Immersive Virtual Reality and Complex Skill Learning: Transfer Effects After Training in Younger and Older Adults
نویسندگان
چکیده
This study investigated the efficacy of training a complex skill within an immersive virtual environment. We constructed sensorimotor workstation task and trained participants to operate it with either non-interactive (text, video) method or equivalent workstation. Our results indicate that reality had significantly higher accuracy produced fewer timeouts in than those using methods, demonstrating successful transfer skills between real world. Further, comparing younger older adults their performance, we found did not differ ability benefit from training, extent this was affected by existing cognitive deficits (as measured Operation Span AX-Continuous Performance tasks). These findings suggest technologies can find application wide range contexts across diverse age groups.

Cognitive skill acquisition and transfer in younger and older adults.
The acquisition of cognitive skills often depends on 1 of (or a combination of) 2 processes, the execution of an algorithm, and the retrieval of problem instances. This study examined the effects of age and repetition of problem instances on the production and verification of solutions to 2 serially presented sets of alphabet arithmetic problems. Analyses of the parameters derived from power-fu...
متن کاملMotor Learning and Movement Performance: Older versus Younger Adults
Introduction: Motor skills play an important role during life span, and older adults need to learn or relearn these skills. The purpose of this study was to investigate how aging affects induction of improved movement performance by motor training. Methods: Serial Reaction Time Test (SRTT) was used to assess movement performance during 8 blocks of motor training. Participants were tested i...

although there are studies on pragmatic assessment, to date, literature has been almost silent about native and non-native english raters’ criteria for the assessment of efl learners’ pragmatic performance. focusing on this topic, this study pursued four purposes. the first one was to find criteria for rating the speech acts of apology and refusal in l2 by native and non-native english teachers...

متن کاملWorking-memory training in younger and older adults: training gains, transfer, and maintenance
Working memory (WM), a key determinant of many higher-order cognitive functions, declines in old age. Current research attempts to develop process-specific WM training procedures, which may lead to general cognitive improvement. Adaptivity of the training as well as the comparison of training gains to performance changes of an active control group are key factors in evaluating the effectiveness...
